A header with six different illustrations of Manabu Yukimitsu at different points of the story. (From the left) Yukimitsu calling out from the bench while grasping Pretz sticks; raising his finger with a smile while explaining something; lifting his head in attention, tears run down his cheeks; looking up, smiling and exhausted after scoring a touchdown; grimacing as he catches the ball in his arms and his helmet flies off; and frowning nervously under his helmet has a he runs a play.

Youichi Hiruma

“YA—HA—!”

A transparent illustration of Hiruma dressed in a black shirt and grinning with his sharp fangs as he stares off to the side. His hair is spiky and blond, his features are sharp and demonic, and each of his long, elf-like ears are pearced with a pair of dark hoop earrings. He's armed with a machine gun, his long finger off the trigger.
A transparent illustration of Hiruma in his team uniform. He's grinning, holding a pen between the fingers of one hand and slamming a binder shut with the other hand.

He’s loud. He’s vulgar. He’s violent. He’s diabolical. He’s more demon than human, and armed with every explosive, firearm, and projectile weapon known to man. But as an American football player, he’s a genius tactician and provocateur who specializes in intimidating and outsmarting his opponents—and often succeeds. He's Yoichi Hiruma, the foul-mouthed, trigger-happy trickster quarterback of the Deimon Devil Bats, the team’s founder, and the ruthless shadow tyrant of Deimon High School.

An ungovernable agent of chaos, Hiruma reigns over both students and faculty through pure terror, as well as a blackmailing system so large and exponential that it functions like a pyramid scheme. No dirty secret is safe from Hiruma’s gangly fingers, all carefully indexed in a little black "Threats" book he always keeps on hand. He won’t hesitate to use whatever intel he has—usually from the people he enslaves, or from his many information-gathering sources—to strong-arm other people into doing his bidding, especially if they’re foolish enough to try and defy him. Anyone he "recruits" into the Devil Bats aren't entirely safe either. He gleefully torments the players he commands with hellish practice drills and training regimends, along with an endless supply of freely fired artillery. He may also sic Cerberus on them to keep practices moving or to drag back anyone who tries to skip (and he has plenty of hair follicle samples and dog treats for those occasions).

(father)

In Japanese, Youichi (妖一) means “bewitching one,” spelt with the same you as youkai (妖怪), a term for ghostly, supernatural beings and monsters.

Hiruma (蛭魔) means “leech demon,” based on his appearance, personality, and his habit of to latching onto and exploiting others. Hiruma can also mean “daytime” if spelled with different kanji (昼間). When pronounced in Japanese order, his full name can be read as “demon in broad daylight” or “devil in plain sight.”
